Textile School, Dornbirn

The old textile school is considered a typical example of the architecture of the fifties, and one of the best in Vorarlberg from the first half of this century.

Since 1981 the buildings, owned by the federal government, ha been vacant. The idea to revitalise the entire area was developed by the city of Dornbirn, with an aim to give the architecturally sound buildings a new lease of life.

The preservation was possible due to faithful renovations of the valuable building fabric. Wherever new interventions were made, these were implemented in line with the existing material and design language. The University of Applied Sciences enables two new design institutes to take residence there, reflecting the buildings heritage. The Kunstraum Dornbirn and the Vorarlberger Architektur Institute call the textile school, home.
