The Augsburg district will halve the number of recycling centers by 2035, particularly affecting smaller municipalities. One of the winners of the new distribution concept is Langerringen, where a modern environmental competence center is set to be established next year. This center will allow for barrier-free and covered disposal of recyclable materials on every business day.
The planned center will also house the Augsburg waste management office and provide a learning space for school classes. Architect Frank Lattke, who is collaborating with HK Architekten, presented the project, which will include the tallest wooden building in the district, equipped with a photovoltaic system that generates more electricity than is used. It will be a purely wooden construction, with only the staircases made of concrete for fire safety reasons.
The environmental competence center will set a good example: the wooden building itself will be fully separable and recyclable at the end of its service life.
