Building work begins at SWG Schraubenwerk Gaisbach GmbH

Expansion of production facilities

SWG Schraubenwerk Gaisbach GmbH is a leading manufacturer of screws for the construction industry based in Waldenburg. The global company has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. The product range includes timber construction screws, screws for fixing metal and plastics as well as mounting screws made of steel and stainless steel.

As the company essentially produces screws for the timber industry, the client’s aim was to use timber for the expansion of the production facilities.

The new production facility, and a new reception building for visitors, is planned on the company’s premises. The mainly timber (frame work, fixtures, partition walls, and staircase) 12.465 m2 hall encapsulates the production process of a screw, from wire delivery, cold forming, heat treatment, through to delivery. Especially designed for the visitors, the production is located over a bridge to the reception centre. The exhibition building will also be built in timber and timber hybrid construction and will be expanded in the future to house the company headquarters using modular building techniques.

In addition to the size of the project, the use of timber for a metalworking industrial space is rare. Especially in a heat treatment facility, the use of timber as a building material is quite unique, but this also poses a special challenge regarding fire protection. As the demand for timber screws is expected to increase in the coming years, the hall can be modularly extended by an additional 11,000 m2.
