The second round of a design competition has decided in favour of the architect Hermann Kaufmann ZT GmbH for the reconstruction of Hannoverhaus.
The Hannoverhaus is located at 2719 m, above the resort Mallnitz in the national park Hohe Tauern. The original construction required vast renovation and after weighing up a wide range of reconstruction options, a replacement construction was considered as the most sensible and economical solution.
The challenge of this competition was the implementation of the special planning taking into account the special location while also incorporating the different requirements for summer and winter operation. The DAV wants to build and operate its huts in an environmentally friendly manner. The energy input for the erection and the energy consumption during the operation is decisive as well as the selection of the building materials, the robustness and durability of the construction.
